European Money Week Ireland

The 12th March 2018 will see the start of the fourth European Money Week, with events organised by national banking associations across Europe. The annual initiative involves young people in more than 30 countries, with activities ranging from classroom sessions to seminars and conferences, all seeking to improve financial literacy through better financial education.

Young people need to learn at an early stage how to manage their finances if they want to be successful in life. To promote the benefits of financial education and to raise awareness BPFI, together with our members, have a series of great events over the month of March to mark this week. BPFI’s two leading events include the Economist Webinar and the European Money Quiz.

BPFI student eventBanking and Payments Federation Ireland (BPFI) will bring together the chief economists from Ireland’s leading retail banks together once again to discuss the economic issues of the day. The event this year will take a digital twist, as economists will stream right into the school classroom – allowing more students, right across Ireland, to attend the economic learning forum hearing from some of Ireland’s top economics thinkers.

This event is one of hundreds of activities taking place this week across Europe during European Money Week 2017. Established in 2015, European Money Week is a joint initiative between the European Banking Federation and over 30 European banking associations, including BPFI. European Money Week is an annual event which aims to raise public awareness on financial literacy and improve financial education for students at primary and secondary level.

Please register your interest for this event at simply stating Economist Webinar in the subject line and your details in body of email including class level (e.g. fifth year economics pass/higher level) and school.

In addition, BPFI has confirmed Ireland’s participation in the inaugural Euro Money Quiz – with the Irish national heat set to take place, during European Money week, Wednesday 14th March at 12pm midday. The European Money Quiz is being launched for the first time in 2018 to improve the financial literacy of 13-15 year-olds across Europe – this competition is not suitable for senior level students.

The winning teams from the Irish national event will be invited to travel to the European finals in Brussels in May. The travel expenses of this trip are part of the prize package and are generously sponsored by BPFI. The winner of the European finals will receive a prize to be shared with their classroom back home.
